2b8d7d7cf3 refactor(track): what goes with unevenness in one place, readable
The rules stay in TrackUneven.h with no dependence on the engine, as they can
be tested. Their use on the tracks moves out of Track.cpp to TrackUneven.cpp,
split into steps: the group of switches, the values of its paths, the meeting
of two ends. One set of helpers for the paths of a track takes the place of
the same conditions written out in several places, and the value at the ends
of a switch is worked out in one place. The clatter of an axle leaves the long
Update of a vehicle. The fields in the editor say themselves when they show.

No change in behaviour.

371de52342 fix(track): what the review of unevenness found in the engine
- A path of no length gave a joint with a vector across of NaN to the path
joined to it, on any scenery, with unevenness or not. It now has no
vector across, and so makes no joint.
- Axles no longer stray along the track. It moved vehicles against each
other, changing the distance their couplers go by.
- The bend under an axle goes straight on past the ends of a path: the
polynomial ran off on a short curved one, with a kick in the cab shake.
- A track left out of its rail run, where tracks are joined one way only,
no longer walks the whole run again on every call.
- The clatter of an axle goes by the outer axle on its side of the vehicle,
and not always by the same one, as the two can be on different tracks.
- A vertex works out the amounts once, and the foot of the ballast not at all.

ec2d226688 fix(editor): the uneven attribute is written in the layout of the entry it goes into
Its numbers go by position, and the positions differ between a plain track
and a switch. A switch made in the style of a plain track wrote them in the
layout of the plain one, so they were read back as other values: the up and
down part as the value of the path p3-p4, and so on.

The values are now one struct with pure functions to read, write and resolve
them, which replaces eight fields and which the unit tests can reach.

02abc7df0a feat(track): all of the unevenness in one attribute, with values for each path of a switch
Usage, before endtrack, in mm, 0-100, separated by semicolons with no
spaces:

  a plain track: uneven value;up;side;cross;dip
  a switch: uneven p1-p2;p3-p4;up p1-p2;side p1-p2;up p3-p4;side p3-p4

  uneven 18 the value alone
uneven 18;;;25;6 with its own cross level and dip at the joints
  uneven 0;;30 sideways alone
uneven 14;35 a switch, 14 on the straight path, 35 on the diverging

What's left out takes the first number, the dip goes by the up and down
one, and a path p3-p4 with no numbers of its own takes those of p1-p2.
This replaces unevenup, unevenside, unevencross and jointdip. The fields
in the editor stay, track panel, section Ride and sound.

At the end they share, the paths of a switch keep to the lower value, and
each comes to its own value along the way. Joined switches take the lowest
of the same path, a path joined to another path the lower of the two, and
a plain track comes to the value of the path it meets. See
track_uneven_doc.md.

6aed9ec5bd feat(track): vertical unevenness comes near its limit more often, with longer buckles too
Fewer short waves: at uneven 18 the humps over 12.6 mm on the 10 m chord
go from 28 to 38 per km, with the peak still at 18 mm. Waves of 47-83 m
join them. They hardly count on that chord, the body rises and falls on
them.

The documentation tells how far unevenness goes before a pantograph
can't keep up. A wire rising fast enough trips the main breaker on a
straight track too: it does at tor0290 on Baltyk, over about 46 km/h.

e74bbf951f fix(track): the cross level of an uneven track goes by the place, not by how it was laid
Tracks laid towards each other settled to opposite sides: a step of cant
of twice the value at their joint, in the geometry and under the axles.
It's now a tilt of the plan, which reads the same from either track.

e5266e1e6b feat(track): track unevenness declared in the track entry
Usage, optional attributes of a track entry, before endtrack:

uneven <mm> peak deviation of a rail on a 10 m chord, 0-100; normal and switch
unevenup <mm> up and down alone, instead of uneven; normal and switch
unevenside <mm> sideways alone, instead of uneven; normal and switch
unevencross <mm> cross level alone, instead of uneven; normal only
jointdip <mm> depth of the dip at rail joints, every sound distance; normal only,
default 0.4 of the up and down component

Values of uneven follow PLK Id-14 appendix 1: 6 mm is the limit at 160 km/h, 10 at 120,
18 at 80, 35 at 40; half of it for a track in a good state. Example:

  uneven 18
  unevencross 25
  jointdip 6
  endtrack

The same fields are in the editor, track panel, section Ride and sound. See
track_uneven_doc.md.

The unevenness is a displacement field over the plan of the scenery, with no random
numbers: one place strays the same every time, and joined tracks, the paths of a switch,
sleepermodel and axles at one place move together. Tracks meet at a joint at the lower of
their values. Joined switches take the lowest of theirs, the tracks joined to them come to
it, and a track with none of a component keeps the switch to its design in it. The clatter
comes from the dipping joints. Curve radius and grade for the physics stay as designed.

Tracks with it get geometry every 2 m on straights: 4x the vertices on Baltyk with all
tracks flagged, 0.2 ms more per frame on td.scn.

80379b991c feat(editor): the work of the editor sessions not committed yet, as it stands: a curve traced on from the end of the diverging track of a switch goes on at its radius with no transition in, or from a straight right at the switch (alignment start_held, fit_going_on), the plan taking an end adjoining R 10 km or more for a straight; the switches and slips laid into curves, slid along them and laid alone on one straight (frame_path, switch slide); the route plan reading curves going on from the tracks adjoining, the kept designs taken or forgotten; the orthophoto and terrain model settings, downloads and layers, the tracks onto the terrain; the curvature of a path in the plan (bezier::plan_curvature); the Polish texts of all of it. 2eda26b94c feat(editor): a warning of the sudden change of the cant deficiency right behind a switch, as ST-T1-A6 sees it (9.11): a track laid on from the end of the diverging track of a switch, or into it, is checked by switch_curve::check_exit from the end of the curve of the switch, a straight frog's length before its end, to the first sudden change of the curvature of the track laid. Two of them nearer than the intermediate element of table 9.16 (6 m in track connections up to 60 km/h) are taken together, else each one alone, against table 9.15 (130 mm up to 60 km/h), at the speed of the laying or of the diverging track of the switch, the lower one. The view tells of it by the cursor while the track is extended or laid, the status once it's laid; a transition out of the frog straight makes no sudden change. Selftest: from a Rz S42-190-1:7,5 with a frog straight of 1.66 m a curve the other way of R 200 m warned of 194 mm together, the same way none; from a Rz 60E1-190-1:9 with 6.09 m a curve the other way of R 200 m none, of R 120 m warned of 157 mm 2026-10-29 22:16:19 +01:00

89b6ca07af feat(editor): the norms of a slip switch bent into a curve, as ST-T1-A6 sees it: switch_curve::check_slip tells that a slip is bent in a side track only, never in the running nor the main tracks (11.4 pkt 4b), that a track through it is to keep its curvature of one sign (9.7 pkt 12), that a slip curve bent the way the curve turns gets sharper and no sharper than the 180 m of a side track (table 9.2), and the cant as over a bent switch, with none recommended in a side track (9.3 pkt 5). The cant over a switch is checked by one function for both. Unit tests: a Rkpd of R 190 m bent into R 800 m has its slip curves of R 154 m, below the side track, and 249 m; into R 4000 m of R 181 m, within it; on a straight it's no bent one 2026-10-27 19:23:24 +01:00

ed3d6551d8 fix(editor): a straight between two curves turning the same way, traced in the mode of a curve, is laid as a straight: points along a curve, about 200 m of straight and a curve the same way (wgr.scn) were fitted as one compound curve of eight arcs, its straight two arcs run up to R 50000 and laid at R 10360 once the curve was scaled between its tangents. The two curves with a straight between them, fitted about as closely, weren't taken over it, and were refused anyway: the last curve rounded to the metre no longer fitted up to the last point. A compound curve with an arc more than 4 times flatter than its sharpest one gives way to curves with straights between them which keep to the points about as closely, where straights between curves may be laid; the curves fitted are settled to the metre, or as laid a hair under where that gives a warning, as the chain of a reverse curve was; the chain of curves takes curves turning the same way with straights between them too, three of them, and wins over the two curves where it keeps closer. d6df785b78 feat(editor): the download area drawn on the topo map: a polygon is the boundary of what the editor downloads, the orthophoto and the terrain model alike. Drawn from the settings of the orthophoto (Download area, Draw on the map, the top view on): a click puts a point, a point dragged moves, Shift+click removes it, Backspace takes the last one back, Enter closes the area, Esc gives up; it's kept in the scenery as //$a lines in PUWG 1992, so it stays on the ground when the origin moves. Inside it everything the settings ask for, the standard imagery, the 4K one where it's ticked and covers the place, the squares of the terrain model where the scenery has its terrain, goes to the disk cache in the background, nothing decoded nor uploaded, only while no tile around the camera waits and not while the scenery is driven, with its progress, Pause and Retry under it; outside it nothing is asked for, around the camera, along the tracks or ahead of the laying, nor shown. The workers of the orthophoto are 8, at most 3 of them on the tiles around the camera, each holding an image decoded, the rest downloading the area. The 4K tiles: an image the tile no longer wants once it comes, as a 4K one asked for before the camera moved on, isn't uploaded (the 64 MB and the mipmaps of it), nor decoded where a newer job of the tile waits; no two jobs of one tile run at once; a standard tile coming blank twice is remembered by a .blank file, not downloaded again on each return; a 4K tile is uploaded only in a frame with no other upload. Selftests orthoarea, orthostats, orthohires, orthoareapause; unit tests of the tiles a triangle, a concave polygon, a thin band and a polygon about a corner touch (geometry::squares_in, square_touches) 2026-10-26 18:58:09 +01:00

9b596e7ffa feat(editor): reverse curves laid through points in the mode of a curve: points clicked along an S, with a straight between its curves or none, gave "No curve follows the points clicked along it", and a curve to and fro of three was laid as one curve running metres off the points. A stretch traced is fitted as a chain of two to four curves too: the points split where the curvature they show changes its side, a curve for each part, the lines between them, the common tangents of a reverse curve, fitted with the radii and the transitions from the tangents at the points of inflection. Two curves turning the other way may meet with no straight between them, their transitions meeting at the inflection, or their arcs; the radii which fill the room between their vertices are kept as they were laid, a hair under, so the design gives no warning of radii made smaller. Two turning the same way stay one compound curve unless a straight of shortest_between parts them. A unit test traces eight such lines, clicked exactly and 5 cm off, with other radii and the ends not parallel, and finds the radii within 3 % 2026-10-26 18:23:04 +01:00

34bd7c853e fix(editor): no path of a few millimetres laid by the route design, and no camera at no finite place: an arc of a compound curve squeezed to almost nothing in the plan (a share of 0.00002) made pieces of a few millimetres, which the simulation takes for paths of no length (Bad track: zero length spline, it measures a path in steps of 5 cm), laid as tracks with kinks at their joints. alignment::pieces gives such a stretch to the piece next to it, the one between the same joints if there's one, so no piece is shorter than 10 cm, and a piece of no finite length isn't split for ever. A zoom with the wheel aimed at a point which isn't a number doesn't move the camera, and a camera gone to no finite place goes back to where it last was: right after such tracks were laid the graphics driver hung (TDR) and the whole machine froze. A unit test cuts 4000 compound curves of random arcs, transitions and shares into pieces, as the plan lays them over the paths there and all over again, and finds none under 5 cm 2026-10-25 17:26:16 +01:00

97b6a84d1b fix(editor): a curve laid from a free end on a curve, or to one, goes on from its curvature: traced (Tab) from the end of the diverging track of a switch it begins right at P4 at the radius of the switch, not on a straight nor with a transition from a curvature of 0. The design of the line takes the curve of the adjoining track at each end (start_curved/end_curved with the radius, the side and the cant, kept with it in the scenery): the curve of the first vertex turning its way, or of the last one, begins right at the end, its transition going from that curvature and cant to those of its first arc, as between the arcs of a compound curve, none where it goes on at its radius; the radius of its arcs is the one which begins it there, solved for the tangent, the curves next to it making room on the straight. A curve traced next to such an end is fitted by its transitions alone, with none between the curves where the points keep to that as well, or laid from a straight there where it doesn't go on from it or that keeps to the points much closer: eased out of the curve of a plain track by the transition of the norms, the line beginning at its end, or right from P4, as a switch goes on with a straight. A bend of straights turning the way of the curve gets its curve going on from it with the transitions and the cant of the norms; the other way, or a straight, as before: eased out of the curve of a plain track, the jump of the curvature kept at a switch, as at its start, and not warned of. The cant of the adjoining track goes on into the curve with no ramp at that end; the norms ask for the transition between the curves only where the curvature differs by more than 5 % or the cant by 5 mm. The readout by the cursor, the status after laying and the plan tell the curve going on from the track, the plan with a box to go on or not. Dragged back to P4 from a point the curve goes on from its radius too. Selftests laywalk, laybends, curvejoint, endcurves; unit tests of a curve going on from a switch and into a free end, its cant, traced, through a transition into a larger radius, and of a bend of straights after such an end 2026-10-25 12:28:55 +01:00

29b9b93353 fix(editor): the plan warns of the curved track adjoining a curve only where the curvature jumps there: a curve going on from the diverging track of a switch at its radius (R 300 after R 301 in wsd) no longer has it. The side the adjoining track turns to is taken with its radius into the chain and the design, and the curvature the design meets it with, signed by its turn, compared with it, within 5%; a design kept without the side is taken for turning its way. Unit test: R 300 from the very start after R 301 turning the same way gives no warning, turning the other way or starting with a straight does 2026-10-25 11:14:49 +01:00

e43863932d feat(editor, track): a cant ramp of its own, off the transition curve: each end of a curve may have its ramp moved and of a length of its own (ST-T1-A6 9.6 pkt 5 and 11), on the straight before the curve or on the arc, the transition keeping the full cant all along, as a switch laid on it wants it; set in the plan under "Cant ramps", stored with the vertex as "ramps", reversed with the curve, marked across the track in the view. The cant of a line is a profile along it now, the paths cut where a ramp of its own starts and ends, their rolls following it, warnings where a ramp is shorter than its cant asks for or reaches into the curve before, past the line or over the other ramp. A switch on a cant ramp is drawn following it: its rails, blades, frogs and bed made at the mean of its rolls, as before, are turned along each path to the roll of the path there, so it no longer steps at its ends against the tracks either side. The checks of a switch laid into a curve warn of the values of table 11.9 in brackets as of the others, with no word of a consent. ece61056ff feat(editor): a switch laid into a curve is checked by ST-T1-A6 as it's placed: the radii of its main and diverging tracks at its start and its end shown at it; warnings where the curvature of a track turns from one side to the other within it (KZW II, 9.7 pkt 12), where the diverging track is sharper or the main track bent more than table 11.9 allows the basic switch (the values allowed by way of exception named), where a switch of 1:9.403 or steeper is bent (11.4 pkt 4), where the cant changes within it (11.4 pkt 7), where a cant ramp starts or ends within it or under 6 m off it (9.6 pkt 16-17) and where the cant is over 100 mm (table 9.6); a note on a transition curve, which only an exception allows. The ends of the cant ramps are marked on the curve, and the start of the switch pressed within 3 m of where it starts or ends at an end of a ramp, or keeps the 6 m off it, is drawn there. aeef2cebb3 feat(editor): the plan shows which curve is edited: each named W1, W2... as its vertex is in the view, with its km and "Show in the view", which flies the camera over it; the part of it whose field the mouse is over or which is being edited (the whole curve, an arc of a compound one, the transition in, out or between two arcs) lit up in the view and named there with its radius, cant or length. The points clicked when a line is laid are kept with its design in the scenery ("click" lines, moved with it): the plan shows them in the colours of their departure and, while "Keep to the points clicked" is on, fits the radii of a curve whose transitions or cants are changed again to them, its transitions and cants as set; "Transitions for these cants" makes the transitions as long as the norms ask for at the radii and the cants set, an arc of a compound curve with no cant lengthening the ones either side of it. 4602f727bb feat(editor): bends clicked close along a curve make one compound curve, not curves with short straights between them: a row of bends turning the same way, the straights between their curves shorter than as many metres as km/h of the speed (30 m at least), is taken for points of a curve seen on the photo, one curve fitted through them between the straights before and after it, with as many radii meeting with no transitions between them as keep it within 0.3 m of the points, up to eight, and taken where it keeps within 1 m; a row which doesn't is cut in parts, two bends alone joined into one curve along the line their curves laid. A curve traced is two curves turning the same way only with a straight between them as long as that and keeping much closer to the points than one compound curve; a fit running off to the largest radius gives two transition curves meeting. The transitions fitted turn no more than the curve; arcs and spirals are found many times quicker, the curve of a compound fit made straight away, a transition integrated in 64 steps at most. c7f9796387 fix(ai): release horn when human driver takes over from AI (#210)
* fix(ai): release what the AI was holding when the player takes over

* fix(ai): keep the light selector lookup within its table, Sonar findings of the handover

- the light selector size comes from the vehicle definition (LightsList Size)
and isn't limited, while the table holds 18 positions; a bigger selector
read past the table, and so did a table index other than the front or
rear one. Only the positions the table holds are looked at now, and the
selector stays where it is for a bad table index (cpp:S2259),
- the lambdas of the handover capture what they use explicitly (cpp:S3608),
- the chained assignments resetting the headlight state on the AI taking
  over are split (cpp:S1121).

b400255dae Test/physics unit tests (#213)
* build: doctest 2.4.11 in ref/

Single header test framework (MIT), vendored like the other libraries in
ref/ so the tests need nothing extra installed on the CI runners.

* refactor(physics): read vehicle definitions from text as well as files

TMoverParameters::LoadFIZ(path) opens the file and hands the parser over
to LoadFIZ_Parse(), which holds what LoadFIZ() did with it before. The
new LoadFIZ_Text() reads the same format from a string, so a definition
can be made up in memory, e.g. by a unit test. No change in behaviour for
files.

* build: the simulation core as a library the game links

The vehicle physics (McZapkie), the vehicle definition parser and the
helpers they use build as eu07_core, a static library the game links,
so the unit tests to come can link the very same objects instead of
compiling their own copy with their own settings.

The game's build settings (include dirs, definitions, compile options,
libraries) move from the executable to eu07_settings, an interface
target the library links publicly, so the game, the library and later
the tests all build with the same ones. What only the executable needs
stays with it: /MAP, /LARGEADDRESSAWARE, output dirs, the precompiled
header, runtime DLL copying, the crash reporter and the experimental
renderer. No change in what the game builds or links.

* test: unit tests of the simulation core, run as part of the build

eu07_unit_tests: C++ tests (doctest) of the simulation, which set up the
conditions, run the code and check the outcome. No game data, no window.

- the code under test is the core library (eu07_core), the very objects
the game links, built with the game's settings; engine_stubs.cpp stands
in for the logs, settings and scenery layers the library reaches for.
python gets linked with the settings but isn't needed to run the tests
- test vehicles are JSON definitions in tests/unit/data, with the sections
and keys of the game's vehicle definitions (tables as "rows", _keys are
comments), changed by the tests where needed and loaded from memory by
the game's own loader; an unknown section is an error rather than
  silently skipped
- test::vehicle creates the mover the way TDynamicObject::Init() does and
steps it the way the simulation loop does, on a straight track of given
friction and gradient, optionally holding the brake pipe pressure the
  way a coupled locomotive would
- the random numbers of the simulation are reseeded before every test
case, so a test gives the same result alone (IDE) or among the others
- building the game runs the tests at the end, once the game is linked,
and prints a one line summary ("Unit tests: 11/11 passed (80 checks)").
A failure prints the full report and fails the build, in CI and locally
alike, and removes the game binary so the next build reruns them. A
change of the tests alone relinks the game so they run (Ninja and
Makefile generators). -DWITH_TESTS=OFF leaves them out
- first tests: definitions reach the vehicle, KE service application and
release, deeper reduction brakes harder, every implemented distributor
valve charges/applies/releases, service braking stops a moving wagon

* test: stub basic_node::radius_() for GCC and Clang

The Linux build failed to link the unit tests: undefined reference to
scene::basic_node::radius_() from basic_node's vtable in engine_stubs.o.
basic_node has no key function for the Itanium C++ ABI (tooltip() is
declared plain but defined inline in the header), so GCC and Clang emit
its vtable in every unit using scenenode.h, and the vtable needs
radius_(), defined in scenenode.cpp, which the tests don't link. MSVC
emits vtables differently, so the Windows build linked.

* test: test vehicle definitions load with GCC and Clang

All the tests reading a definition failed on Linux with "unknown vehicle
definition section 0": the parsed definition was brace-initialised
(auto const json{parse(...)}), which GCC and Clang take for the
initializer list constructor of nlohmann::json, making an array holding
the definition, while MSVC copies it. Initialise it with =, and require
the definition to be a JSON object.

* test: SonarCloud issues of the unit tests

- test::definition_error for unusable test vehicle definitions instead of
  std::runtime_error (S112)
- the rows of a table section written by a function of their own, less
  nesting in definition::text() (S134)
- std::less<> for the section table (S6045)
- comments in the empty methods of the reseeding listener and stub (S1186)
- NOSONAR where the engine's headers fix the stubs: the extern globals
and the member function signatures (S5421, S5817, S1238)
- NOSONAR on LoadFIZ_Parse(): the cognitive complexity is the former body
of LoadFIZ(), moved as it was (S3776)
- a comment Sonar took for code reworded (S125)
